How was the IVC founded?
The idea of IVC was conceived in May 1946 by two Cambridge undergraduates. At that time, the International Student’s Service organized informal dances during term times, but not during the long vacations. Then the idea came - why, the two asked, should they not run such dances themselves? Thus the idea was born of the Inter-Varsity Vacation Club. The first IVC was set up in London, the second in Manchester, and Birmingham IVC was the third (with its origins going back to 1954).
